Name: Ainchase Ishmael

Canon point: End of Abyss Arc - Chapter 60. He's going to arrive a little messed up, and because he just climbed out of the Abyss, he will probably just ?? hit the deck within a few hours due to a high-grade fever. He'll be fine. He'll get up soon. Please just leave him on the floor.
Age: 23 (appearance); 505+ (actual)

Summary: An angel sent by the Goddess Ishmael to restore the balance of the world (which he failed to do), Ain is an enigmatic man known for his dedication to his friends and mission — whatever that may be at the time. Finding value in humans due to spending the last five years of his life surrounded by them and the confusing lives they lead has led him on the path to becoming more "human" than "angel", though these newfound feelings are not without strife; Ain at many times is confused and lost trying to navigate the world from a human perspective, and harbours a great deal of anxiety on top of this. This anxiety is mostly caused by the fact that he doesn't understand the new emotions he's experiencing, as well as the fact that he is very, very concerned about those close to him at all times. Add in the expected result of being told from birth you're supposed to go die to complete the Goddess's mission of restoring the El (big rock that makes the world live, basically), and you've got a recipe for a mental health disaster, especially when the El gets restored by someone else and Not You. But hey, surely Ishmael isn't that mad at him right, it's not like he went against instruction and lived and also made friends and tried to be human or anything like that.

As he is incredibly loyal to his friends, he tends to glue himself to their sides. Given Ain's tendency to latch onto others in this way, he functions better in a group of close companions than he does on his own. He has a deep-seated fear of being forgotten or left behind due to his nature as an angel where, up until about a year or two ago in his canon, if Ain left the immediate area everyone who he had spoken to would forget he existed entirely. Coming back would restore their memories, but it was still detrimental on him psychologically.

In short: local man loves his friends so much he decides to be human about it and also develops an anxiety disorder.

Powers/abilities:

SPIRITUALISM: Ain's more "angelic" form. In this form, he is weightless and is able to float upon the air. Being in this form slightly augments his magic, but it is tiring to maintain; he will shift back to his regular human form within a few minutes.

EDEL EIDS: The tri-coloured, glowing glyphs that swirl around Ain give him various abilities, including augmenting some of his magic and healing. In particular:
Mut: Augments Ain's magic, making his attacks hit harder.
Rein: Gives Ain's magic regenerative properties, making him able to heal. This healing is extremely limited in that it can only heal physical injuries, and slowly at that; it cannot regenerate lost body parts, cure illnesses or diseases, or revive the dead.
Wille: Increases the attack range of Ain's magic while also being able to sometimes slow the enemy down with ice magic. These two effects are not stackable with one another. When in combat, Ain often prefers to use Wille's slowing abilities.

The big problem with the Edel Eids is that... gameplay-wise, not every skill follows that exact function. The skill Requiem for example, when augmented by Rein, turns the spell into an AOE that fires two large beams, and when augmented by Mut it makes a vortex. I think that's the only exception. I don't know why he's this way. I'm sorry.

OTHER MAGIC: There are four different wiki pages that detail exactly how his skills/magic ingame work (scroll down to the "Skill Tree" blurb on the page if you choose to peruse here; clicking the icon brings you to a video of the skill if applicable). Much of Ain's magic can be described as "area of effect" spells. Ain is definitely more of a "support caster" than someone who would be seen on the front lines, and is a somewhat mediocre performer in hand-to-hand combat. That being said, he can summon a glasslike sword and similarly-styled spears, although they're actually green and not blue (this is the clearest possible image I can use because the game is crunchy). He also possesses some minor wind & far more minor fire magic to boot, sort of a "jack of all trades, master of none" situation. (The fire is really the weakest one, he can make A Flame and that's it.)

Inventory:
-His pendulum, which is used as a sort of arcane focus. It's quite large.
-Also, the clothes on his back. That's it. We pack light here.

OTHER

Sentimental item: Harnier's necklace. Harnier is the mortal vessel of Ishmael and was a key figure in Ain's history as someone who pretty much diagnosed him with an anxiety disorder and helped him work through some of his mental traumas. She's also one of two characters Ain calls by name (normally he defaults to mildly-offensive or downright-annoying nicknames that no one wants), so she's very important to and respected by him.
Gemstone: A bright green (primary), heart-shaped stone with a red (secondary) "core". It's extremely shiny and faceted, about the size of Ain's palm, and there's a crack running down the middle of it.

Lost memory #1: His friend Elsword simply does not exist in his memories anymore. Elsword was the primary shaping force behind Ain's character growth (and also they had the weird ability to resonate with each other due to mutual affinity for the El but that's for another day) and also was, essentially, the glue that held the entire El Search Party/"Ain's idiot friend group" together. Ain was, for all intents and purposes, a little obsessed with Elsword for a myriad of reasons as well, because Ain is extremely normal and has normal attachments to his friends. That said, without the memories of Elsword, there's a certain heavy emptiness Ain feels, like he's constantly searching for something but doesn't know what and that there's a space that needs to be filled and never will be. His "obsession" meanwhile moves onto the rest of his friends instead of being isolated to just Elsword, since the rest of his friends were also key in helping him develop as a person, just to a lesser degree. Most of it might be somewhat-localized to people with a high resonance with the El, such as Elesis and Chung, but overall the freak behaviour is going to spread.

Lost memory #2: Once upon a time, Ain changed allegiance from Ishmael to Elria, another goddess, after sending her a prayer after he kind of died a little bit. He'd asked her to restore him so that he could watch over the El Search Party. Well, guess what's missing? That entire memory. As far as Ain knows, Ishmael restored him instead, which means he comes equipped with Fun Ishmael Traits such as: the fact that people forget him when he leaves, a trait that Elria actually removed from him. Of course, he'll only believe this is the case. He thinks people will forget him, but they do not, leading to a lot of stress whenever he has to depart from anywhere at all because he's pretty sure no one will remember him. He will be visibly distressed about this. He might even be shocked when people actually remember him. Perhaps a little grateful.

Altered memory: In the Lore, the El was restored when Elsword effectively launched himself into it. In Ain's now messed-up memories, the El was never actually restored by anyone (not him, not Elsword (also missing from his brain), not the El Masters). It's still unstable, the apocalypse is still happening, everything is still bad. He believes he still has to throw himself into it and Die to get it to stabilize... and nowadays, now that he has Friend Attachment, this grates on him more than he's willing to admit. He doesn't want to die, he wants to live, but no one lives if the El isn't stabilized. It's a choice he has to mentally battle and stress over, because he's Here and not There. People are (probably definitely) dying while he's unable to help and further unable to make a decision either way.
